  • What is Therapy and what should I expect?
Therapy is different for every person, but there are some common elements. Many individuals seek out therapy (or are brought to therapy by their parents or spouse) because something in life "feels off". It may be obvious- depression, anxiety, anger, conflict poor relationships etc. It can also be less obvious- poor grades, a sudden expansion of anger or defiance, feeling lost in life, being unable to stop or cut-back on certain behaviors or activites (social media, screens, games etc). What ever the reason- therapy is effective and an investment in your longterm well-being and that of those you love. You can expect compassion curiosity, wonder, humor, playfulness.
  • What happens if I miss an appointment of need to cancel?
I ask that you give me at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. A "no-show" or "late-cancelation fee of $130 is usually charged if this notice is not given. Some circumstances are understandable and the fee may be waved. These fees are not designed to be punitive but to keep us accountable to each other. An appointment time is set aside especially for you and is treated with care and effort. Additionally, as much as therapists dislike talking about money- if someone doesn't show up, we don't get paid. (Hey! I have a family to take care too!).
  • Do you work online?
Yes. I have clients all over Virginia. Online Therapy Sessions are conducted via a HIPAA compliant platform.
  • Location
My office is located at 2702 Brambleton Ave., SW in the Grandin Court Area of Roanoke. My office is located in a lovely renovated house and is home to a Osteopathic Physician, a counselor, and other professionals helping others heal in creative and imaginative ways. You may run into a therapy dog as well!
  • What is your Therapy style?
In brief- Systemic/Eclectic/solution focused. To learn more about what that means, click on the Scott's Approach to Therapy Tab
  • Do you accept insurance?
YES! I want therapy to be as affordable to as many individuals and families as possible. I am credentialed with most major insurance panels, so inquire when scheduling an inital appointment. Some individuals choose not to use insurance for therapy do to privacy concerns (the insurance companies require a diagnosis for you to be able to access mental health care. They also have access to your records at any time). If you choose not to use insurance, therapy fees are discussed below.
  • But, isnt therapy expensive?
It may seem that way, depending on insurance benefits, co-pays and deductibles. But, so are car payments, going to the orthodontist, lawn care, cell phones, karate classes and dance lessons- not to mention that much needed vacation to recharge your batteries! Therapy isnt just a friendly chat or an oil change :) Therapy is an investment in yourself, your kids, and your relationships. I work very hard with and for my clients! My expectation is that you will work hard as well- to the best of your ability. The result tends to be an sense of investment, serious work, fewer sessions and lasting change.
  • How long are sessions?
Session times vary between 45-60 minutes, depending on the client, age, and treatment need.
